Since last Friday, February 7th 2025, local business owners worldwide are seeing (in shock) how their 5 star reviews counters drop, dragging their ratings down with them.
This issue is affecting businesses form all the world, and “deleting” only 5-star reviews in several sweeps.
This business has “lost” 605 five-star reviews in the last 3 days
After 72h seeing the panic this has caused, this is what we know so far:
What’s Happening?
While it might look like you lost valuable customer feedback and star ratings, rest assured—it’s just a glitch in Google’s review counter.
Google seems to have experienced a technical hiccup that prevents some 5-star reviews from showing in the total. The good news is that the reviews are still there on Google’s servers; they just aren’t being correctly counted in the visible tally on your Google Business Profile.
What Should You Do?
- Don’t Panic: Most likely, your 5-star reviews haven’t been erased and Google keeps track and copies of all its data, so they can revert any time. Also Google typically resolves these bugs within a few days, so there’s nothing you need to do from a technical standpoint.
If you want to log your complaint, you can do so in the GBP Support forum: https://support.google.com/business/threads?hl=en&max_results=100 - Keep Gathering Feedback: If you regularly encourage happy customers to leave reviews—especially restaurant patrons or loyal local clientele—keep doing so. There’s no harm in continuing to build your positive reputation.
